Money in Da Lat: ATMs, currency exchange, cards and QR

In Da Lat withdraw dong at an ATM or change money only at a bank or an agent with a "Đại lý đổi ngoại tệ" sign. Where the banks are, roubles, Mir, Liên Khương airport and the fines for street exchange.

The easiest ways to get dong in Da Lat are an ATM or a bank counter. Our section on banks in Da Lat lists Vietcombank (33 Nguyễn Văn Cừ), MB Bank (26 Phan Đình Phùng), Techcombank (136 Phan Đình Phùng) and VPBank (37 Phan Bội Châu). We found no licensed exchange agent with a "Đại lý đổi ngoại tệ" sign in Da Lat in official sources, so the practical answer is a bank. Changing money on the street, in a shop without the sign or with a private person is illegal and fined.

Where are the banks in Da Lat?

Four branches from our banks section: Vietcombank at 33 Nguyễn Văn Cừ; MB Bank at 26 Phan Đình Phùng; Techcombank at 136 Phan Đình Phùng; VPBank at 37 Phan Bội Châu. Two of them are on the same street, Phan Đình Phùng, so you can visit both in one trip. We do not list opening hours: check the time on the map on the day or call the branch. Addresses are written as "Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng".

Where can I withdraw cash?

At an ATM: open your bank's app and find the nearest machine, every bank has an address search. We have not checked ATMs street by street against official lists. The per-withdrawal limit is set by the bank that owns the machine, so if the amount is refused, take less or withdraw twice. Both your bank and the machine owner can charge a fee; it depends on your card, and the ATM usually shows it on screen before paying out. We give no figures, they differ by bank and change.

Where is it legal to change money?

Currency exchange in Da Lat — what is legal
WhereLegal?What to look for
Bank (Vietcombank, MB, Techcombank, VPBank, etc.)yesusually passport required; call and ask whether they take your currency
Bank agent ("Đại lý đổi ngoại tệ")yessign with the bank and agent names, open rate board
Gold shop, shop without the sign, private person, Telegramnofine and confiscation of the currency
ATMyesyou withdraw dong from your card; fees from your bank and the machine owner

Da Lat has many gold shops and some change money. That is legal only if the door carries a bank-agent sign and a rate board is displayed. No sign means no exchange, even if the rate looks good. Branch addresses are in the banks section.

How do I recognise a licensed exchange agent?

A real agent has a sign at the entrance with the name of the authorising bank and of the agent, and rates displayed openly. An agent may only buy cash currency from you and pay in dong; it cannot sell you foreign currency (SGGP, 27.05.2025). No sign or rate board — go to a bank branch. We found no official list of agents in Da Lat and name none.

What is the penalty for street exchange?

Decree 340/2025/NĐ-CP has applied since 9 February 2026. For under 1,000 US dollars outside a bank or agent, the first time is a warning, a repeat is a fine of 10–20 million dong. For 1,000 to 10,000 dollars the same 10–20 million fine applies and the currency may be confiscated. The State Bank advises changing cash only at commercial banks and registered agents. In September 2025 Da Nang police caught a gold shop exchanging with a customer: the shop was fined 30 million dong, the customer 15 million, and the currency was seized. The older decree 88/2019 applied then, but the rules are national.

Will exchange points appear in hotels and tourist areas?

Not yet. In June 2026 the State Bank proposed a draft circular that would let agents operate in hotels, tourist sites, pedestrian streets and shopping centres (Dân Trí, 04.06.2026). It is a draft, not a rule in force: until adopted, change money only at a bank or an agent with the sign.

Can I change money at Liên Khương airport?

Do not count on it. Liên Khương airport has taken flights again since 19 August 2026 after a five-month runway closure (Vietnam News, 19.08.2026). The airport guide on the Vietnam Airlines site says there is no currency exchange in the terminal area. Some travel sites mention exchange and ATMs at the airport, but we found no official confirmation, so change or withdraw money before the flight or in town at a bank. Ways to get from the airport to town are in transfers.

Do they change roubles in Da Lat?

The rouble is on the currency list of Vietcombank's rates page, but whether a given branch takes your rouble cash is the branch's decision: call ahead. US dollars or euros are the safer choice. Changing roubles in a shop without the sign is illegal, same rules and fine.

Does the Mir card work in Da Lat?

Do not rely on it. In Vietnam Mir cards are accepted by the Russian-Vietnamese bank VRB: you can withdraw dong at its ATMs and pay at its terminals. The network is small: a February 2026 report says VRB has 21 ATMs in the whole country. We did not find a VRB ATM in Da Lat. The current list of points is on the VRB site, and you can call the free line 1800 6656. The fallback is cash dollars or euros and a Visa or Mastercard card.

Can I pay by card or QR?

Cards and QR work in hotels, restaurants and shops with a terminal; ask before ordering. Foreign QR schemes are connected for tourists from six markets: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, China, South Korea and Singapore (VietnamPlus, 25.09.2026). Russians and Europeans are not on that list, so bring cash for markets and small cafes.

How much cash can I bring into Vietnam?

Up to 5,000 US dollars in cash or up to 15 million dong needs no declaration. More must be declared on a customs form; undeclared currency is fined (decree 169/2026, from 1 July 2026).

What changed with Lâm Đồng province?

Da Lat was already in Lâm Đồng, but the province is bigger. Since 1 July 2025 Đắk Nông and Bình Thuận have been merged into Lâm Đồng (National Assembly Resolution 202/2025/QH15, art. 1 item 14). Da Lat consists of five wards (phường): Xuân Hương, Cam Ly, Lâm Viên, Xuân Trường and Lang Biang (VOV, 15.07.2026). Old ward numbers in addresses (for example "Phường 1") may still appear in apps and on maps; it is the same place.
