How do I choose a dentist in Ho Chi Minh City?

Look at four things: does the clinic hold a licence, does it give a written treatment plan, does it name the materials, and does it put the warranty in writing. Then consider district and hours. A polished website or reviews do not replace a licence.

What should I ask the clinic before booking?

  • A written treatment plan: what work, in what order, how many visits.
  • Whether an X-ray is taken first. If they treat by eye without an image, walk away.
  • Which materials: country and brand of the implant or crown. Ask for it in your record, ideally with the implant passport.
  • Whether you can finish before your flight: give your departure date and ask for visits by date.
  • Who treats you and in which language: English at reception and English in the chair are different things.
  • What happens if a complication starts after you have left.

Take X-rays and the treatment summary in electronic form: your dentist at home will need them.

Do clinics in Ho Chi Minh City give a warranty?

Each clinic sets its own, there is no single rule. Ask to have the term, what it covers and the conditions written into the plan. A "lifetime warranty" on a website is only a promise until the conditions are on paper.

How do I check a dental clinic's licence?

A clinic may operate only with an operating licence and a dentist only with a practice licence (articles 19, 49 and 50 of Law 15/2023/QH15). Ask the front desk to show both: the clinic's and your dentist's.

You can also look it up yourself: the portal of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has search for "Người hành nghề Y" (practitioners) and "Cơ sở khám chữa bệnh" (clinics and hospitals). Enter the clinic name or the dentist's name from the signboard. If there is no record, ask the clinic for its licence number and check again.

What if a tooth starts hurting at night?

The clinics in the table work in daytime, 20:00 at the latest. At night, call an ambulance on 115 (GOV.UK) or ask your hotel reception to. Hospitals with an emergency department are in Hospitals and pharmacies in Ho Chi Minh City and the hospitals section. With a swollen cheek or a fever, do not wait for morning.

What should I bring and what about insurance?

Bring your passport and, if you were treated at home, X-rays and records. Show your policy at once and ask whether dental care is covered.

GOV.UK advises getting insurance that covers local treatment before travelling to Vietnam and contacting your insurer quickly if you are referred to a medical facility (GOV.UK, health in Vietnam). Ask your insurer before the visit whether dental is covered, whether pre-authorisation is needed and which papers the clinic must give you.

What should I do before an implant or long treatment?

Implants, crowns and bite correction are not done in one visit. Before paying for the first stage, ask for a written plan: what will be done, in what order, how many visits, which materials. Clinics must display service prices in a visible place (article 60 of Law 15/2023/QH15). If the amount is only spoken and there is no plan on paper, do not agree to treatment the same day.

How do I explain the problem in Vietnamese?

  • Tôi bị đau răng. — I have a toothache.
  • Răng này đau về đêm. — This tooth hurts at night.
  • Tôi bị sưng má. — My cheek is swollen.
  • Tôi bị dị ứng thuốc. — I am allergic to medicines.
  • Cho tôi xem kế hoạch điều trị bằng giấy. — Please show me the treatment plan on paper.
