What to see in Mui Ne: dunes, the fishing village, Fairy Stream and Ke Ga lighthouse

White and red dunes, the fishing village at dawn, Fairy Stream, Ke Ga lighthouse and the Cham towers. Where things are, when to go and how to fit Mui Ne into 1–2 days.

Mui Ne takes one or two days: the red dunes and Fairy Stream are in the village itself, the fishing village is an early-morning stop, the white dunes are about 25 km to the north-east, and Ke Ga lighthouse and Ta Cu mountain are a separate trip south and south-west of Phan Thiet. Travel guides recommend sunrise or sunset for the dunes. Since 1 July 2025 Binh Thuan has been part of Lam Dong province, so new addresses and signs say "Lâm Đồng". All places are in the Mui Ne sights section.

Where are the red dunes and when should you go?

The red dunes (Đồi Cát Bay, also called Đồi Hồng) are right in Mui Ne village, in khu phố 5. Vietnam.travel recommends sunset and the newspaper Báo Văn Hóa recommends sunrise. The sand moves with the wind, so the shape and exact spot of the dunes change. People slide down on plastic boards, and jeep tours also run here.

How do you get to the Bau Trang white dunes, and do jeeps run?

The white dunes (Bàu Trắng) are about 25 km from town according to Vietnam.travel, in Hòa Thắng commune. It is white sand around the lakes Bàu Ông and Bàu Bà; lotuses bloom on the lake roughly from May to August. Vietnam.travel recommends sunrise. After a fatal accident on 25 May 2025 the Bắc Bình district committee stopped jeeps and off-road vehicles on the dunes. We did not find whether they run now, so ask your hotel or the tour organiser before you go.

What can you do at the Mui Ne fishing village?

Come early in the morning: after sunrise hundreds of round basket boats line the shore and fishermen unload the catch. The fish market on the beach runs from 5:00 to 9:00 and is liveliest right after sunrise. Stay out of the fishermen's way and ask before photographing people.

What is Fairy Stream and what should you wear?

Fairy Stream (Suối Tiên) is a shallow, ankle-deep stream in Mui Ne. You walk up it barefoot: red clay and limestone on one side, greenery on the other. Take sandals you do not mind getting wet. Guides give no exact address, so search the map for "Suối Tiên".

How do you get to Ke Ga lighthouse?

Ke Ga lighthouse (Hải đăng Kê Gà) is a French-built lighthouse from 1899 on an islet about 500 m off Cape Ke Ga. It is about 35 km south of Phan Thiet centre, around 40 minutes by car. A boat to the islet takes 10–15 minutes and the climb is more than 180 steps. VnEconomy (2023) says a sand spit appears to the islet at low tide. We found no official hours; MoMo lists it as open access, so ask the boatmen on site.

What are the Cham towers between Phan Thiet and Mui Ne?

The Po Sah Inu towers (Tháp Pô Sah Inư) stand on Ba Nai hill in Phú Thủy ward and are dedicated to Shiva. They have been a national monument of architecture and art since 1991. Sources date them differently: late 8th to early 9th century (Báo Văn Hóa) or the 9th century (Vietnam Airlines). We found no opening hours, so ask on site if you go specifically.

What is on Ta Cu mountain?

Ta Cu mountain (Núi Tà Cú) is 649 m high, about 30 km south-west of Phan Thiet centre. There are temples on the slope and a 49 m reclining Buddha (1963–1966) higher up. You can take the cable car in about 10 minutes or walk in about 2 hours; the path is slippery in rain. We found no hours in open sources, so check by phone or at the ticket office.

What is worth seeing in Phan Thiet itself?

Briefly: the Van Thuy Tu whale temple (founded 1762, national monument since 1996; about 100 whale skeletons, one over 20 m long) opens 7:00–17:30 according to Mytour. The Truong Duc Thanh school at 39 Trưng Nhị, where young Ho Chi Minh taught in 1910–1911, is open 7:00–17:00 (MIA.vn, 2023). The 32 m octagonal water tower on the Cà Ty river (1928–1934) is a symbol of the city and is viewed from outside.

What should you see in Mui Ne in 1 and 2 days?

1 day. Sunrise at the fishing village, breakfast, then Fairy Stream. Rest in the heat. Red dunes at sunset.

2 days. Day one as above, but the white dunes at sunrise instead of the fishing village (you will not be back from Bau Trang before the market closes at 9:00). Day two goes south: the Po Sah Inu towers on the way, the whale temple and Truong Duc Thanh school in Phan Thiet, then either Ke Ga lighthouse or Ta Cu mountain - each takes half a day.

For getting to Mui Ne and between places see Transfers and Taxi apps (Grab and Green SM, formerly Xanh SM). To combine with the sea, see Surfing.
