SIM card in Da Lat: operator shops, documents, eSIM

In Da Lat a foreigner gets a SIM with a passport at a Viettel, MobiFone or VinaPhone shop. Where the shops are, what documents you need, the airport question, how eSIM works and what to do if the SIM is blocked.

A foreigner gets a SIM card in Da Lat at an operator shop with a passport: Viettel is at 208 Phan Đình Phùng, MobiFone at 38 Khu Hòa Bình, VinaPhone (VNPT) at 14 Trần Phú. You can also set up an eSIM in advance. What matters is that the number is registered to your passport and that you pass the face check in person: since April 2026 a number that has not been verified is switched off.

Where do I buy a SIM in Da Lat?

Da Lat has three operator shops in our mobile and SIM section. Viettel — 208 Phan Đình Phùng. MobiFone ("Xuân Hương") — 38 Khu Hòa Bình, by Hòa Bình square in the centre. VinaPhone (VNPT) — 14 Trần Phú. We do not list opening hours: on the maps they differ from the signs, so check the opening time on the day or call the shop. Bring your passport, they will not register a SIM without it. Addresses are written as "Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng".

Can I buy a SIM at Liên Khương airport?

We found no confirmation. Liên Khương airport has taken flights again since 19 August 2026 (Vietnam News, 19.08.2026), but we saw no SIM sales in the official airport information. Do not count on a counter in the arrivals hall: set up an eSIM in advance or buy a SIM at an operator shop in town. Ways to get from the airport to town are in transfers.

What documents does a foreigner need?

The original passport with a valid visa or visa-free entry. A foreigner's SIM is registered to a passport only. The operator checks four data points: document number, full name, date of birth and a photo of the face, and they must match the national entry and exit database. The rule comes from Circular No. 08/2026/TT-BKHCN of the Ministry of Science and Technology, in force since 15 April 2026. Most often that means visiting a shop in person or registering through the operator's app.

Can I buy a SIM before I arrive in Da Lat?

Yes. A Viettel tourist SIM can be ordered in advance at tourist.viettel.vn: they ask for a photo of the passport's first page, a portrait photo and an email address. If you need internet right after landing, set up an eSIM beforehand: it also helps for calling a transfer or Grab.

Is there an eSIM for foreigners?

Yes. MobiFone issues an eSIM in the Hi Vietnam app: you need a passport photo, electronic identity check, a video call and an electronic signature. After installing the eSIM you call 900 to activate it. The phone must support eSIM and be unlocked from its carrier, and paid packages are paid by Visa or Mastercard. Check the terms in the app on the day of purchase.

What changed on 15 April 2026?

Every number must be verified against the document data and the face. If a number fails verification, the operator first switches off outgoing calls and SMS. If it is not verified within 30 days, incoming service is cut as well, and 5 days later the operator may terminate the contract. Foreign SIMs issued before April were given 60 days from the circular's entry into force to re-verify. If you bought a SIM long ago, visit an operator shop and make sure the number is verified.

What happens if I change phones?

From 15 June 2026, if a SIM is put into another phone, the operator may within two hours switch off outgoing calls and SMS and ask for a repeat face check. You get 30 days for it. The check is not needed if the number is registered through a level-2 VNeID account or a chip CCCD card — tourists usually have neither, so set up an eSIM on the phone you will actually use.

What should I do if my SIM is blocked?

Take your passport and SIM to the shop of your operator in Da Lat: Viettel, MobiFone or VNPT — addresses above. There you pass the face check again. The circular does not describe the recovery steps in detail, so ask the operator. If the shop is closed, call the hotline: Viettel's is given at tourist.viettel.vn.

What about coverage in Da Lat and the mountains around?

We found no official coverage data from Viettel, VinaPhone or MobiFone for Da Lat and the mountain roads around (passes, waterfalls, Langbiang) and promise nothing. If you need a signal on trips, ask the operator in the shop and test the SIM while you are still in town. Download an offline map for the road.

What changed with Lâm Đồng province?

Da Lat was already in Lâm Đồng, but the province is bigger. Since 1 July 2025 Đắk Nông and Bình Thuận have been merged into Lâm Đồng (National Assembly Resolution 202/2025/QH15, art. 1 item 14). Da Lat consists of five wards (phường): Xuân Hương, Cam Ly, Lâm Viên, Xuân Trường and Lang Biang (VOV, 15.07.2026). Old ward numbers in addresses may still appear in apps and on maps; it is the same place. For money and ATMs see banks.
