Choosing a dentist in Da Nang: where to go with a toothache and what to ask

Where to go with a toothache in Da Nang: clinics with addresses and hours, what to do at night, how to check a licence, insurance and Vietnamese phrases.

Dental clinics in Da Nang are listed in the Dentists section with addresses, hours and phone numbers. Clinics don't always say which languages they treat in: staff at East Meets West help foreigners in English, and with the others ask when you book, by phone or messenger. Most clinics open at 8:00 and some stay open until 20:00. Bring your passport and your insurer's phone number, and book by phone or messenger, ideally the day before. If it hurts at night or on a Sunday and the clinics are shut, look for a hospital with an emergency department: see the hospital guide. The ambulance number in Vietnam is 115.

More clinics are in the Da Nang dentists section. Clinics cluster in the centre by the Han River (Hải Châu), on the east bank (Sơn Trà) and further south towards Ngũ Hành Sơn. Pick one near your hotel, since you may need several visits.

What if it hurts at night or on a weekend?

Most clinics in the table close between 17:30 and 20:00. Sundays differ: Lưu Hiền is open until 11:30, East Meets West and Rạng Ngời are closed, while Dr. Phước, METAL and Việt Anh list daily hours. Call the day before.

If the clinics are closed and you cannot wait, you need a hospital with a 24-hour emergency department. See Hospitals in Da Nang: where a foreigner should go and the hospitals and clinics section. The ambulance number is 115 (GOV.UK); ask hotel reception to call.

How do I choose a dentist in Da Nang?

Look at four things: does the clinic have a licence, will it give you a written treatment plan, does it name its materials, and will it put the warranty in writing. Location matters too: pick a clinic near your hotel, because follow-up visits take time.

What should I ask a clinic before booking?

  • A written treatment plan: which procedures, in what order, how many visits.
  • Whether an X-ray is taken first. If they treat "by eye" without one, walk away.
  • Materials: the country and brand of the implant or crown, written into your record.
  • Whether you can finish before your flight: give your departure date right away.
  • Who will treat you and in which language: English at reception and English in the chair are different things.
  • What happens if a complication starts after you have flown home.

Take your X-rays and discharge notes with you in electronic form: your dentist at home will work from them.

Do dentists in Da Nang give a warranty?

The clinic sets its own warranty; there is no single rule. Ask for the period, what it covers and the conditions to be written into the plan. A "lifetime warranty" on a website is only a promise until the terms are on paper.

How do I check a dental clinic's licence?

A clinic may operate only with an operating licence, and a doctor only with a practice licence (articles 19, 49 and 50 of Law 15/2023/QH15). The clinic's licence records its name, address, scope of work and working hours. Ask reception to show the clinic's licence and the licence of the doctor who will treat you.

The Da Nang Department of Health (Sở Y tế Đà Nẵng) publishes lists of clinics that received or amended a licence: the 2025 list and the list as of 10 Oct 2024, both as Excel files. Look for newer clinics in the latest notices on the same site.

What should I bring, and what about insurance?

Bring your passport and, if you have them, X-rays and records from home. Show your policy straight away and ask whether dental care is included.

GOV.UK advises travellers to Vietnam to carry insurance covering local treatment and to contact the insurer quickly if you are referred to a medical facility (GOV.UK, health in Vietnam). It says nothing about dental care, so ask your insurer before the visit whether dental is covered, whether pre-approval is needed and what documents the clinic should provide.

How do I explain the problem in Vietnamese?

Pointing and a few phrases go a long way:

  • Tôi bị đau răng. — I have a toothache.
  • Răng này đau về đêm. — This tooth hurts at night.
  • Tôi bị sưng má. — My cheek is swollen.
  • Tôi bị dị ứng thuốc. — I am allergic to medication.
  • Cho tôi xem kế hoạch điều trị bằng giấy. — Please show me the treatment plan on paper.

Use a translation app for what the dentist says and show them the screen.

What should I do before an implant or long treatment?

Implants, crowns and bite correction are not done in one visit. Before paying for the first stage, ask for a written treatment plan: what will be done, in what order, how many visits, which materials. Ask for the warranty in writing too: how long, what it covers and what to do if a problem appears after you have left.

A clinic must display its service prices (article 60 of Law 15/2023/QH15, full text). If the sum is only spoken and there is no plan on paper, do not agree to treatment the same day.
