Which hospital should you choose?

  • You need English — Family Medical Practice: the clinic's website lists English and German among its doctors' languages. No Da Nang hospital promises Russian on its website, so ask about an interpreter by phone.
  • An emergency at night — the 24-hour Family Hospital, Family Medical Practice, Hoàn Mỹ or the city's Da Nang Hospital at 124 Hải Phòng. See the table below.
  • You're claiming on insurance — call your insurer's assistance line first: they will tell you which hospital bills them directly.
  • You only need medicine — go to a pharmacy; two Pharmacity branches in Da Nang are open 24 hours: buying medicine in Da Nang.

How do I call an ambulance in Da Nang?

The ambulance number in Vietnam is 115, but the line is answered in Vietnamese only (GOV.UK, getting help abroad). Ask hotel or host staff to make the call. If you can travel, order a Grab to the emergency entrance and show the driver the Vietnamese address from the hospital's page.

Which Da Nang hospitals take patients around the clock?

Three private hospitals state round-the-clock emergency care on their own websites, and the city hospital shows 24 hours on Google Maps. Vinmec's page does not state its hours, so phone before you go. The full list is in the hospitals and clinics section.

How is the city hospital different from the private ones?

Da Nang Hospital is the main public hospital of the city, at 124 Hải Phòng, close to the centre; its website gives 0236 3821 118. Google Maps (October 2026) shows it open 24 hours. Staff speak mostly Vietnamese, so keep a translation app ready and, if you can, bring a local with you.

Are there Russian- or English-speaking doctors in Da Nang?

These websites do not promise Russian. Family Medical Practice lists the languages of its Da Nang doctors: English, German, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Family Hospital has an international clinic, but its page does not name the languages. Phone ahead and ask whether an interpreter is available and in which language. Photos of your medicine packs and a list of your diagnoses on your phone speed up admission a lot.

What should I bring to the hospital?

Your passport, insurance policy and the insurer's assistance phone number. The UK government advises insurance that covers local treatment and medical evacuation (GOV.UK, health). When you are discharged, ask for a summary with the diagnosis and treatment, and keep every receipt: your insurer will want them if you claim the money back.

How does travel insurance work at the hospital?

There are two ways: the hospital bills your insurer directly (in Vietnamese "bảo lãnh viện phí") or you pay and claim later. Family Hospital says it works with more than 60 insurers and asks you to show your policy and passport so staff can check whether it has an agreement with your insurer (Family Hospital, insurance cards). Family Medical Practice reports direct billing with leading Japanese and international insurers. The Vinmec Đà Nẵng page names AIG Travel Assist, Bảo Việt and PVI among the insurers it accepts. Whether direct billing works for your policy is for your insurer's assistance line to confirm, before the visit.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on tests and treatment. On admission ask three things: is a deposit required, will the hospital accept your insurer's guarantee, and can you get an estimate in advance. The websites of these hospitals say nothing about deposits; Vinmec Đà Nẵng publishes a separate price list on its page.

What if I'm bitten by a dog, poisoned, or hurt in a scooter crash?

Go to a 24-hour emergency department: in Da Nang that means Family Hospital, Family Medical Practice or the city's Da Nang Hospital. After an animal bite or scratch, WHO advises washing the wound with soap and water for at least 15 minutes and seeing a doctor (WHO, rabies).

What if I only need medicine?

A pharmacy usually handles simple things like allergy, fever or pain. What to ask the pharmacist is covered in our guide to pharmacies in Da Nang; addresses are in the pharmacies section.
