When can you swim in the sea in Da Nang?
The sea in Da Nang is calmest from April to August: on My Khe beach it is often glassy in the morning, and in summer lifeguards on the city beaches are on duty from early morning to evening — hours are in Da Nang beaches. From September to December rip currents form along the whole shore, worst in October and November. A red flag means no swimming; only go in between the red-and-yellow flags, where lifeguards are watching. In January–February the water is cool and people swim only on quiet days.
When is the rainy and typhoon season in Da Nang?
Da Nang's rainy season runs from September to December. October is the wettest (about 628 mm over 20 rainy days), followed by November (448 mm). What is the forecast for this winter?
On 15 October 2026 Vietnam's National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued its seasonal outlook: in November 2026 central Vietnam, including Da Nang, is expected to get 20–40% less rain than normal, with temperatures 1–2 °C above normal. Fewer typhoons than usual are expected through January, but spells of heavy rain in November–December are still possible. This is a seasonal outlook, not a forecast for your dates: check nchmf.gov.vn a few days before you travel.
When should you go to Ba Na Hills?
Ba Na Hills is easiest between February and August, when Da Nang gets little rain. The resort sits on a mountain at about 1,500 metres, 25–30 km west of the centre, with a cable car to the top. It is 10–15 degrees cooler up there than in town, so bring a jacket, especially in winter. In the rainy season, pick a dry day from the forecast. Tours are listed under sights and tours and travel agencies.
When should you go to Hoi An?
Hoi An's old town is 30 km south of Da Nang, 45–60 minutes by car, and open all year. It's dry from February to August; in June–July daytime highs reach 34 °C, so the old town is more pleasant in the evening when the lanterns come on. In October–November the riverside streets can flood: on 27 October 2025 Bach Dang and Le Loi streets in Hoi An went under water and residents and tourists were moved by boat. Can you spend the winter in Da Nang?
You can, but Da Nang winters are cooler than people expect from the tropics: 25–26 °C by day and 19–20 °C at night in December–February, and January still has 12 rainy days. If you arrive in October–November, your first weeks will fall in the rain and typhoon season. Pack a sweater and a rain jacket, and choose a place that copes with the wet: air conditioning that dries the air, and not right by the river. Warm, dry weather settles in by March–April.
