What can you buy at Han Market?
Han Market is a two-storey covered market in the city centre, at the corner of Trần Phú and Bạch Đằng, and the first stop for most visitors who want souvenirs and food. The ground floor has groceries, fruit stalls by the entrance, dried squid and fish sauce; upstairs are fabric, clothes and shoes. It is open every day from 6:00 to 19:00. Go early for live seafood and vegetables while locals are shopping; according to Vietnam Airlines' guide, tourist crowds build up around 9:00.
How is Con Market different from Han Market?
Con Market is bigger and more local: about 14,000 m² split into three areas — an indoor food court, dry goods and open-air stalls. It is open daily from 7:00 to 19:30. People come for the food (bánh xèo, bánh căn, mì Quảng) and for dried specialities — squid, shrimp, fish, sauces — which visitors often take home as gifts. It can be confusing at first, and the Da Nang tourism portal suggests setting aside an afternoon. The GO! hypermarket is close by on the same street, Hùng Vương.
Which night markets are there in Da Nang?
Da Nang has several night markets; the two most popular are Helio and Son Tra. Helio is on 2/9 Street and, per the Da Nang tourism portal, opens 17:30–22:30, with food, drinks, small purchases and evening music on a stage. Son Tra sits at the corner of Lý Nam Đế and Mai Hắc Đế by the Dragon Bridge: souvenirs, clothes and food, open roughly 18:00–23:00 according to the same portal. Some other guides put Son Tra's closing at midnight, so check on the spot if you go late. A third, An Thuong, is in the Ngu Hanh Son district near the beach (17:00–23:00).
Where can you buy souvenirs and gifts in Da Nang?
People buy souvenirs at Han and Con markets, the night markets, gift shops near the sights and OCOP stores, which sell local products with a clear origin. The usual food gifts are dried squid, fish sauce and other sauces, and Ly Son garlic, chilli paste and dried rice crackers. Packaged local specialities are also sold at Da Nang airport. Check your airline's baggage rules before taking fish sauce or strong-smelling seafood — the Da Nang tourism portal flags this separately. Keep your receipts: shops usually have a set period for exchanges.
Where can you buy fresh fruit and seafood?
In the centre, the easiest place for fruit is the entrance of Han Market, where stalls sell bananas, jackfruit and other tropical fruit. Han Market also has plenty of live seafood: Vietnam Airlines' guide lists crabs, squid, clams and fish in tanks, and says prices change daily, so ask first. Con Market has the wider choice of fresh food. For something quick in the evening, GO!, Lotte Mart and Co.opmart on Điện Biên Phủ Street are open until 22:00 or so.
Which supermarket should you pick?
For familiar groceries and household basics, choose Lotte Mart, GO! or Vincom Plaza with its WinMart supermarket — each one is in a different part of town. Lotte Mart is at 6 Nại Nam, south of the centre: a supermarket, clothes, cosmetics and Korean goods. GO! (formerly Big C) is at 255–257 Hùng Vương, near Con Market: fresh and dry food, appliances and a CGV cinema. Vincom Plaza is on the east bank of the Han River at 910A Ngô Quyền: fashion shops, cinema and a food court, with WinMart inside. Co.opmart is at 478 Điện Biên Phủ in the west. All four are under supermarkets.
Where can you buy clothes?
Clothes come from the second floor of Han Market (fabric, ready-made clothes, shoes), the Vincom and Vinh Trung Plaza malls and the night markets. Vincom Plaza has four floors of shops including H&M and Adidas; Vinh Trung Plaza stands next to GO! and is open 9:30–21:30. If you want something made to measure, there are tailors in Han Market and in Hoi An — our guide to tailoring in Hoi An explains how it works. All clothing and shoe shops are under clothes and shoes.
How do you bargain at a market?
At Han Market you can bargain almost everywhere: compare the price at a few stalls first, then negotiate. Vietnam Airlines' guide says the first price is set high. Buy non-food items after 10:00: some vendors believe the first sale of the day brings luck and bargain reluctantly before then. Market management requires vendors to display prices and sell at the tag — ask whether there is one. Supermarkets and malls usually have fixed prices.
Are there thieves or scams at the markets?
We found no official pickpocket warnings for Da Nang's markets. Han Market is crowded: in 2023 it received about 4,000 people a day, up to 10,000 on peak days, mostly Korean tourists, and its management reported cameras and security staff. By the same report, about 70 tourists were helped to recover items they had lost or left behind. Still, keep your phone and wallet close in a crowd and ask the price before you buy.
How do you get to the markets?
Han and Con markets are in the centre, and Vincom Plaza is across the Han River by the Dragon Bridge. How to take a taxi without being overcharged — in our guide to taxis in Da Nang. To add Hoi An: the evening market is the Hoi An Night Market, by day the Hoi An Central Market; how to get there is in from Da Nang to Hoi An.
