SIM card in Nha Trang: where foreigners buy one and what to bring

In Nha Trang you buy a SIM with your passport at an operator store: Viettel, MobiFone, VinaPhone or Vietnamobile. Store addresses, tourist eSIMs, and why a SIM from a street seller may stop working after April 2026.

Buying a SIM card in Nha Trang as a foreigner is easy: take your passport to an operator store — Viettel, MobiFone, VinaPhone or Vietnamobile. The key thing is that the SIM is registered in your name. Since April 2026 Vietnam has been re-checking every subscriber, and a SIM registered to someone else can stop working.

Where do you buy a SIM in Nha Trang?

MobiFone176 Le Hong PhongeSIM through the Hi Vietnam app
VinaPhone (VNPT)4 Le Loiask at the counter

Viettel and MobiFone are on the same street, Le Hong Phong, so you can walk into both and compare packages. All stores are in the mobile and SIM cards section.

What should you bring?

Your original passport. A foreigner's SIM is registered to the passport, and staff usually ask for your visa or temporary residence card details too. Requirements do change — if in doubt, call the store first.

What changed on 15 April 2026?

New subscribers now go through a face check, and existing SIMs are re-verified. Vietnamese users do this in the VNeID app, but a foreigner who registered with a passport has to visit an operator store in person, with the passport and the SIM. If you skip it, outgoing calls stop first, and later the SIM can be cut off.

If you bought your SIM before April 2026 and it still works, go to your operator's store now rather than waiting for it to be blocked.

Should you buy a SIM at the airport or from a street seller?

Better not, if you're staying more than a couple of weeks. These SIMs are often registered to someone else. In a Google Maps review (August 2026) a woman says she used a Hanoi airport SIM registered to a stranger for two years, then had to go through verification all over again. A store in town registers the SIM to you on the spot.

Are there eSIMs for tourists?

Yes. Viettel sells tourist SIMs and eSIMs at tourist.viettel.vn — you'll be asked for a photo of your passport. MobiFone offers an eSIM through the Hi Vietnam app.

How do you top up?

At the operator store, with a top-up card from a shop, in the operator's app or through an e-wallet. Ask which options work for your SIM when you buy it.

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreigner buy a SIM card in Vietnam? Yes, with a passport at an operator store. Make sure it's registered in your name.

What document do I need? Your original passport. Visa or temporary residence card details are often requested too.

What if my SIM was registered before April 2026? Go to an operator store in person with your passport and the SIM for re-verification. Foreigners can't do it through VNeID.

Can I buy a SIM at Cam Ranh airport? Reviews mention operator counters, but a store in town is the safer bet — they'll definitely register it to you.

Do store staff speak English? Visitors say MobiFone staff speak good English. Keep a translation app handy just in case.

How much does a SIM cost? Packages and prices change — ask in the store what's available for your length of stay.

Sources and verification

Store addresses checked on Google Maps on 29 September 2026. We have not confirmed that the Vietnamobile shop on Hai Thang Tu is an official operator store. Tourist offers come from the operators' websites (1 October 2026, links below). The subscriber check rules from 15 April 2026 come from a Tuổi Trẻ newspaper article of 14 April 2026; we have not read the regulation itself, and the article gives no separate deadlines for foreigners. Travel reviews mention operator counters at Cam Ranh airport, but neither Google Maps nor operator sites confirm them. Comments on staff languages are visitor opinions. Text updated 5 October 2026.
