How do I tell a real dive centre from a beach reseller?

Diving has something most trades lack: official registers. A centre operating under PADI or SSI is listed on padi.com or divessi.com, with its rating and instructor count visible. Someone selling other people's dives from a stall is never in there. We check every listing against the register and say in the sources what it confirmed — and you can repeat that check yourself in about a minute.

I have never dived. What can I actually do?

A try dive — Discover Scuba Diving in PADI language — takes half a day: a short briefing on land, then a shallow dive with an instructor at your side, one-to-one or two-to-one. No certification needed. If you like it, the entry-level course runs three to four days and ends with a card that works worldwide.

When is the visibility good?

Roughly February through September. From October to January the rain and the north-east wind arrive, the water clouds up, and trips get cancelled more often — sometimes on the morning itself. That is the boat working correctly, not letting you down: the call belongs to the skipper and the weather. If your trip is tied to one fixed day, ask what happens when it is cancelled.

Will anyone speak my language?

The PADI and SSI registers list staff languages explicitly, and several Nha Trang centres list English, French, Korean and Russian among them; the listings note this where confirmed. Instructor line-ups change faster than registers update, though, so ask when you book — "who is guiding on that day and what languages do they speak" gets an immediate answer.

What should I check before the boat leaves?

How many divers per instructor, whether equipment and insurance are included, where the dive sites are and how long the ride out takes. Be honest about your experience — overstating it is dangerous specifically underwater. And do not book a flight within 24 hours of diving; that is a safety rule, not the centre being careful.

Why are there no prices in the listings?

The cost depends on how many dives are in the programme, whether you rent equipment, how large the group is and where the boat goes. The centre itself does not know it in advance. We publish no unverifiable figures anywhere in this directory — ask when booking, and ask what the quoted number includes.
