Da Nang districts: where to stay for a holiday or a long stay — new names since 2025
Since July 2025 Da Nang’s old districts (Hải Châu, Sơn Trà, Ngũ Hành Sơn and others) are replaced by new wards such as Hải Châu, An Hải, Ngũ Hành Sơn and Hòa Xuân. How to read old names in rental ads, what is near each area and where it flooded in October 2025.
If you want to live by the sea, look along My Khe beach — the An Hải ward (formerly Phước Mỹ, An Hải Bắc) and Ngũ Hành Sơn ward (formerly Mỹ An, Khuê Mỹ). If the city, markets and the Han river promenade matter more, look at Hải Châu on the west bank. For a long stay, think about the rainy season too: in late October 2025 floodwater entered homes in Hòa Xuân and streets flooded in Cẩm Lệ and Liên Chiểu, while those reports did not mention the beachfront Võ Nguyên Giáp road.

What are Da Nang’s districts called now?
Since 1 July 2025 Da Nang no longer has the urban districts (quận) of Hải Châu, Sơn Trà, Ngũ Hành Sơn, Thanh Khê, Liên Chiểu, Cẩm Lệ or Hòa Vang rural district. They were replaced by larger wards (phường) and communes (xã) under Resolution 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee (16.06.2025), when Da Nang merged with Quảng Nam province. Rental ads and old signs still use the previous names — sometimes even names abolished on 1 January 2025 (shown in brackets):

What is nearby if I stay by My Khe beach?
My Khe beach runs along Võ Nguyên Giáp road through two wards. An Hải ward (formerly Phước Mỹ and An Hải Bắc) has My Khe beach, the Dragon Bridge over the Han and the Vincom Plaza mall at 910A Ngô Quyền. Further south is Ngũ Hành Sơn ward (formerly Mỹ An and Khuê Mỹ, then Hòa Hải): the same beach, ending at the Marble Mountains, 81 Huyền Trân Công Chúa. The road to Hội An is closer from there.
What is nearby if I stay in the centre, in Hải Châu?
Hải Châu ward is the west bank of the Han river. On foot: Han Market at 119 Trần Phú, the Pink Cathedral at 156 Trần Phú, Con Market at 90 Hùng Vương, the Bạch Đằng riverside and the Dragon Bridge. To reach the sea you cross the river. South of the centre, in Hòa Cường ward, is Lotte Mart at 6 Nại Nam. The airport sits almost inside the city, between the Hòa Cường, Thanh Khê, An Khê and Cẩm Lệ wards — see Da Nang airport to the city.
What about Sơn Trà, Thanh Khê and the north?
Sơn Trà ward (formerly Thọ Quang, Mân Thái, Nại Hiên Đông) is closest to the Sơn Trà peninsula and Linh Ứng Pagoda. Thanh Khê is a residential area between the centre and the airport, with GO! (formerly Big C) at 255–257 Hùng Vương. The north — Hòa Khánh, Liên Chiểu and Hải Vân — has the industrial zone and the road to the Hải Vân pass; few tourists stay there, and its streets flooded in October 2025.
Is Wyndham Golden Bay a convenient place to stay?
Wyndham Danang Golden Bay is at 1 Lê Văn Duyệt, on the east bank of the Han river in Sơn Trà ward (formerly Nại Hiên Đông). It is neither the centre nor the beach: about 3 km to Han Market, about 4 km to the Dragon Bridge, about 3.5 km to My Khe beach and 6–8 km to the airport. Nobody walks to the sea from here — you need Grab, a taxi or a motorbike (renting a motorbike in Da Nang). It suits you if the river view and the hotel itself matter more than strolling around town.
Where does Da Nang flood in the rainy season?
In October 2025 the water came three times, in different places. On 18 October, after a night of heavy rain, Liên Chiểu ward and the Hòa Khánh industrial zone flooded, with over half a metre of water on Âu Cơ street by Thanh Vinh market. On 28 October the river spilled onto Thăng Long road under Cẩm Lệ bridge: about 400 metres of road under water, closed by Cẩm Lệ ward. On 29–30 October people in Hòa Xuân ward were taken out by boat; in the low-lying group 8 (tổ 8) homes had more than a metre of water. In Ngũ Hành Sơn border guards helped residents move belongings higher. If you rent in these areas for the autumn, ask the landlord whether water entered the home in October 2025 and check the floor.
Where should you stay in Da Nang?
The simplest places to stay in Da Nang are by My Khe beach (An Hải and Ngũ Hành Sơn wards) or in Hải Châu by the Han river if you want the city, markets and the promenade. By the sea you have the beach, the Dragon Bridge and Vincom Plaza; in Hải Châu, the Han market, the cathedral and the centre. The airport is 4–5 km from the centre. Pick the area where you will spend your days, and see the place in person.
Is Da Nang or Hoi An better to live in?
Da Nang suits you if you want a big city with a beach and an airport nearby; Hoi An, if you would rather live in a small old town. Hoi An is 30 km from Da Nang, about 45 minutes by car, and since July 2025 it is part of Da Nang. Nha Trang or Da Nang?
Nha Trang versus Da Nang depends on the season, winter stays, excursions and flights; all of it is covered in the separate guide Da Nang or Nha Trang: which to choose. For a winter stay, also count the rainy season: in Da Nang it runs from September to December, and in October 2025 some districts had flooded homes.
What should I check before renting in Da Nang?
View the flat in person before paying anything, and put the address with the new ward name, the term and the deposit into the contract. The landlord must register you with the ward police: under Law 47/2014/QH13 (Article 33) whoever provides the accommodation does this within 12 hours of your arrival. If the landlord refuses, look for another place. Rental agencies are being added to renting in Da Nang.
