How far is Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City?
Nha Trang is about 400 km from Ho Chi Minh City by road. On the North–South expressway it is about 382 km: the last section to Nha Trang, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao (78.5 km), opened on 26 April 2024, and since then the expressway runs all the way from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang (Sai Gon Giai Phong, 26 April 2024). Bus drivers say the trip now takes about half as long as on the old Highway 1A. Guides that talk about 10–12 hours on the bus were written before the expressway opened.
How long is the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang?
The flight from Tan Son Nhat to Cam Ranh takes about an hour; Vietjet lists it at 59 minutes. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet fly the route. Cam Ranh airport, though, is 35 km from Nha Trang, so add 45–60 minutes by taxi, Grab or bus No. 18 (Vietnam Airlines). Once you count the ride to Tan Son Nhat and check-in, flying saves you three or four hours over the train, not eight. The SNT2 night train leaves Saigon station at 21:45 and arrives in Nha Trang at 5:40. The return SNT1 leaves Nha Trang at 20:20 and reaches Saigon at 5:00. Since 12 October 2026 the line has run refurbished rolling stock: 32 carriages with four- and six-berth compartments, 24-berth soft-sleeper cars and a dining car (Viet Nam News, 14 October 2026). SE trains on the Saigon – Hanoi line also stop in Nha Trang. Nha Trang station is at 17 Thai Nguyen in the city centre, a short walk or a 5–10 minute ride from the beach.

The holiday service runs from 23 January to 25 February 2027 with 57 trains and about 300,000 seats; one person can book up to 10 tickets each way (VietnamPlus, 5 September 2026). Buses from the south arrive at the Nha Trang South bus station. Since 1 April 2024 it has been at a new site at the start of Vo Nguyen Giap avenue, about 8 km west of the centre; the old station on 23/10 street is closed (Tuoi Tre, 1 April 2024). Train, bus or plane: which should I choose?
With children or a lot of luggage, the night train is the easiest: you can lie down, there is a dining car, and it arrives in the city centre rather than 35 km away. If you only have half a day, fly. People take the bus when the train is sold out or when they need to travel during the day.
