What is an honorary consul, and what can they do?
An honorary consul is a local representative of a country rather than a career diplomat, often working out of their own company office, and sees people by appointment. They do not issue passports or visas. Poland’s embassy says plainly that its honorary consul in Da Nang does not handle visas, passports or legal matters — those go to the embassy in Hanoi. What an honorary consul can do is put you in touch with the embassy and tell you what to do next.

What can a consulate help with, and what can’t it?
A consulate helps its own citizens with documents and emergencies: a lost or stolen passport, certificates, registering nationals, and support after an arrest, a hospital stay or an accident. Russian citizens who lose their passport get a free certificate of return, usually within 2 working days. The step-by-step process, including the new Vietnamese visa you will need, is in our guide Lost your passport in Vietnam.
A consulate cannot issue or extend a Vietnamese visa. That is Vietnam’s immigration service, and an extension is applied for by your sponsor (Law 47/2014 as amended by Law 23/2023). Visa-free stays and the e-visa are covered in the visa guide; what your landlord must do is in the residence registration guide. If something is happening right now, call Vietnam’s emergency numbers first: police 113, ambulance 115, fire 114.
In which Vietnamese cities is there a Russian consulate?
The Russian consulate general is in Da Nang (22 Tran Phu) and the embassy is in Hanoi. There is no Russian consulate in Nha Trang. A Russian citizen may contact any Russian consular office in Vietnam, and migration-service matters are handled by the consulate whose district covers the place of residence (rusconsdanang.mid.ru). The full list of offices and districts is on the embassy site vietnam.mid.ru.

Mission details come from the official websites of each country’s foreign ministry or embassy and from announcements by Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry; every page was opened on 22 October 2026 and is linked below. The Lao consulate general in Da Nang is confirmed by the Da Nang city website, but there is no official address, so we do not give one. Countries whose official pages we could not open (including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia and Malaysia) are left out — check your own foreign ministry’s site. Offices move and many addresses still use pre-2025 district names, so call before you go. The sites vietnam.mid.ru and rusconsdanang.mid.ru did not open again on 23.10.2026, so the answers on cities and services rely on the consulate general pages opened on 22.10.2026. Those pages do not say whether you can be received without an appointment, so we do not claim it: call ahead. Updated 23 October 2026.
