Vietnam visa: the 90-day e-visa — how to apply and what to check

Russian citizens need no visa for Vietnam for stays of up to 45 days; many other passports also get visa-free entry. For longer stays, an e-visa of up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, from evisa.gov.vn only. How to apply, avoid look-alike sites and check your visa.

Short answer: citizens of Russia, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea and the Nordic countries can stay in Vietnam for up to 45 days without a visa until 14 March 2028 (Government Resolution 44/NQ-CP). Everyone else, and anyone staying longer, needs a visa — usually the e-visa from the official portal evisa.gov.vn: up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.

Do I need a visa for Vietnam?

It depends on your passport. Resolution 44/NQ-CP of 7 March 2025 lets citizens of 12 countries — Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland — stay 45 days from the date of entry, with any passport type and for any purpose. Belarusians get 30 days, up to 90 days per calendar year; Kazakhstan citizens get 30 days, up to 90 days in any 180 (bilateral agreements, listed by Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Look your country up in that ministry’s visa exemption list. For visa-free entry your passport must still be valid for at least six months, as evisa.gov.vn states in its entry conditions.

What is the e-visa and how long does it last?

An electronic visa valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. Law 23/2023/QH15 sets the 90-day limit for EV visas, and evisa.gov.vn accepts applications from citizens of any country. A single-entry visa covers one entry and one exit. A multiple-entry visa lets you pop over to Cambodia, for example, and come back on the same visa while it is still valid.

How do I fill in the e-visa on the official site?

1. Open evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn — the same government portal, on both addresses since 11 November 2024. 2. Choose the application for foreigners (For foreigners applying for e-Visa). Fill it in in English, with your name in capitals exactly as in the machine-readable lines of your passport. 3. Upload a recent 4×6 photo on a white background, no glasses or hat, and a full image of your passport data page with no corners cut off. 4. Pick your port of entry: e-visas only work at the checkpoints on the official list, and Cam Ranh airport is on it. 5. Pay the fee on the portal itself; you see the amount before paying. It is not refunded if the visa is refused. 6. Keep your application number. With it, your e-mail and date of birth you check the result and print the visa. Processing takes up to 3 working days (Ministry of Public Security services portal).

Apply before you travel: e-visas are issued to people who are abroad, not to those already in Vietnam.

How do I avoid look-alike visa sites?

There are two official addresses, evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn, both ending in .gov.vn. Sites with “vietnam”, “visa” or “evisa” in a .com, .org or plain .vn name are private agents: they add their own mark-up and your passport and card details go to people you do not know. If a site asks for more than evisa.gov.vn shows, or promises “approval in an hour”, close it. In May 2026 Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security also warned about fake sites copying its services and charging cards.

What should I check on the finished visa?

Compare it with your passport: surname and given names, date of birth, passport number, nationality, the from and to dates, and single or multiple entry. Fix a wrong passport number or date with a new application before you fly, not at the border. Print the visa and keep a copy on your phone. Your passport must outlast the visa: under Law 47/2014/QH13 a visa ends at least 30 days before the passport expires.

Is there anything to fill in before landing?

Since 15 April 2026 the Ministry of Public Security has been piloting the Pre-Arrival Information form (PAI) at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn for Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, with other airports to follow. In May 2026 it was voluntary. You fill it in within 3 days before arrival and get a QR code to show at immigration. A health declaration is only required when the Ministry of Health orders one for a specific outbreak, and the site tokhaiyte.vn does not belong to the ministry. More in our guide to registration in Vietnam.

Can I extend visa-free stay or an e-visa?

Only through the immigration service. The law gives citizens of visa-waiver countries 45 days and allows them to be considered for a visa or an extension (Article 31 of Law 47/2014 as amended in 2023). The application is filed by the inviting organisation or the person sponsoring you, not by the traveller (Article 35). You cannot get a new e-visa from inside Vietnam, so if you plan a longer stay, sort out the visa before you travel.

In Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa provincial police accept entry and exit paperwork at the public service centre at 2 Le Thanh Ton Street, on weekdays and Saturday mornings (notice of 16 July 2025). Ask there for the list of documents before you go.

What else will I need in Nha Trang?

Your landlord or hotel must register you with the police — what to ask them is in our guide to temporary residence registration. SIM cards are sold on your passport: buying a SIM. Getting into town: Cam Ranh airport to Nha Trang. Lost your passport? What to do step by step.

How much does the 90-day e-visa cost?

The fee is set by the state. It depends on whether the visa is single or multiple entry, and it is stated on the procedure page of Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security services portal. Check the exact amount there and on evisa.gov.vn: the site shows it before you pay. We don't print figures because they change. Pay only on the government portal: agent sites add their own markup on top.

How do I get a long-term visa for Vietnam?

The e-visa is valid for 90 days at most. For longer you need a different visa type. Under Law 23/2023/QH15 a "VR" visa (visiting relatives and other purposes) can run up to 180 days, and a visa for working with a company (DN), study (DH), joining family (TT) or an investor (ĐT4) up to one year. Each type has its own conditions and documents, and the application is usually not made by the tourist alone: ask Vietnamese immigration or a Vietnamese consulate before you travel. Russians need no visa for up to 45 days — see above.
