Air conditioning in Nha Trang: when to clean it, who to call and what to say
Clean every six months, why it drips or smells, clean versus regas, seven workshops with hours and three Vietnamese phrases for a call-out.
By the sea, air conditioners clog faster: salt, humidity and road dust. Here it's worth cleaning yours every six months, more often if it runs day and night. Weak cooling, a musty smell or dripping are nearly always fixed by a clean, not a repair. Technicians come to you — just send a photo of the model sticker and one phrase in Vietnamese on Zalo or WhatsApp.

When is it time to call a technician?
- It cools less than a month ago at the same setting.
- The indoor unit smells musty — that's not "the smell of cold air", it's mould on the evaporator and in the drain.
- It drips into the room — almost always a blocked drain hose, not a breakdown.
- Ice on the pipes or the grille — low refrigerant or a very dirty unit.
- It's got louder: rattling or whistling.
Do I need a clean or a regas?
A clean means flushing the evaporator, filters, drain and outdoor unit. It's done regularly, and it usually fixes both weak cooling and smells.
A regas means topping up refrigerant. A working air conditioner doesn't use refrigerant up: the circuit is sealed. If there's less, there's a leak. A technician who quietly tops it up every season without looking for the leak is selling you the same job on repeat. The right order is: find the leak, fix it, vacuum the circuit, then recharge.
Ask which refrigerant your unit uses. Newer split systems usually run on R32 or R410A, and neither can be swapped for the older R22.
How do I explain the problem in Vietnamese?
Many workshops only speak Vietnamese. Send a photo of the unit's model sticker on a messenger with one of these:
- "máy lạnh không lạnh" — it isn't cooling;
- "máy lạnh chảy nước" — it's leaking water;
- "vệ sinh máy lạnh" — I need a clean.
Those three phrases cover most call-outs.
What should I ask before they come?
- What the job includes: just the indoor unit, or the outdoor one too.
- Whether they flush the drain — that's what usually causes dripping.
- Whether the work is guaranteed, and for how long.
- How long it takes and whether they need access to the outdoor unit.
I'm renting — who pays?
Your contract decides. Usually routine cleaning is the tenant's job and wear-and-tear breakdowns are the owner's. But where wear ends and "you broke it" begins is a matter of opinion, so agree before anything breaks. On a long let, put it in the contract along with the meter readings; more in renting a flat.
Report problems to the owner by message, not in passing: the chat later shows who knew what and when.
What can I do myself?
Take out the mesh filters from the indoor unit, rinse them in warm water, dry them and put them back. It takes ten minutes, it's safe and it helps noticeably. Anything more — dismantling, pressure-washing the evaporator, touching the circuit — needs tools and experience. Never open the refrigerant circuit yourself.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean an air conditioner in Nha Trang? About every six months, more often if it runs around the clock: salt, humidity and dust clog units faster than inland.
Why is my air conditioner dripping? Almost always a blocked drain hose. A drain clean fixes it, not a repair.
Why does my air conditioner smell musty? Mould on the evaporator and in the drain. It needs cleaning.
Does an air conditioner need regassing every year? No. A working unit doesn't lose refrigerant; if it's low, look for a leak.
Who repairs air conditioners in Nha Trang at any hour? Điện Lạnh Anh Sáu has a 24-hour hotline, and Điện Lạnh Hòa Tam Phát takes requests 24 hours.
How do I call a technician if I don't speak Vietnamese? Send a photo of the model sticker on Zalo or WhatsApp with "máy lạnh không lạnh" (not cooling), "máy lạnh chảy nước" (leaking) or "vệ sinh máy lạnh" (clean).
How much does an air conditioner clean cost? We don't publish prices: when you book, ask what the job includes and what it costs.
Sources and checks
The workshops in the table come from the air conditioner repair section: addresses, hours and phone numbers were checked against Google Maps and the workshops' own sites and pages, with sources and dates on each listing. Điện Lạnh 247 confirmed its move to 79 Phong Châu to us on Zalo in September 2026. Two addresses circulate online for Điện Lạnh Anh Sáu — call before going in person. The advice on cleaning, leaks and refrigerant applies to split systems in general; a technician will judge your unit. Updated 7 October 2026.
