Currency exchange in Nha Trang

Where in Nha Trang you can change money lawfully: banks and agents licensed for currency exchange. We do not publish rates — they change every day; check them at the counter or on the bank website. A listing appears only for a place whose status is confirmed. We do not recommend changing money on the street, at unclear outlets or through messengers: under Vietnamese law, currency exchange outside banks and licensed agents is prohibited.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I legally change dollars or roubles in Vietnam?

At banks and at agents holding a State Bank of Vietnam certificate for currency exchange — according to Vietnamese press, this can include some gold and jewellery shops. Exchange with private individuals, on the black market or through social networks is treated as a violation. Ask whether the outlet is licensed, and check the official list of licensed agents with the State Bank.

Dollars or roubles: what to bring and what to change

US dollars are the most widely accepted; roubles are taken noticeably less often — banks and licensed outlets do not always accept them. Shops and services in Vietnam price in dong: paying in dollars at cafés and shops usually means a poor conversion. If you hold roubles, ask the bank or outlet in advance which currencies they take.

Are old or crumpled notes accepted?

Often not: outlets and banks frequently refuse torn, damaged, worn or old notes, or offer a lower rate. Bring new, flat notes of large denominations.

Do I need a passport to change money?

At banks, yes, a passport is usually required; licensed agents may differ. Check by phone before you go.

ATM or exchange?

At an ATM you get dong on your card, but your issuing bank and the ATM operator each charge their own fees and set limits. Compare your bank’s terms with the ATM’s withdrawal limit; we do not publish exact figures.

Where can I see the rate, and why no rates for exchange points?

Vietcombank’s official rate is on the "Dong exchange rate today" page: it is the bank’s own data with its update time, refreshed hourly. We do not publish individual counters’ rates: they move during the day, and an out-of-date figure is worse than none. We also do not name "the best exchange": it cannot be verified from public sources, and an outlet’s licence is checked separately.

The answers above are short. Sources for the rules on medicines, money and documents (laws, official and bank websites), with dates, are in our guide Where to change money in Nha Trang legally — and not lose it all.
