How to get a taxi on Phu Quoc: which apps work and how not to overpay

The easiest way to get a taxi on Phu Quoc is the Green SM app (also known as Xanh SM): electric VinFast cars, booked from your phone. With no data, call a taxi company: Mai Linh, Vinasun, Sasco, Sài Gòn, Nam Thắng or Đăng Quang; numbers are in the table below. Get into a car with a meter, or agree the fare before you set off and ask for a receipt. Grab works at Phu Quoc airport; for the rest of the island, check the app.

Which taxi apps work on Phu Quoc?
Green SM (guides more often say Xanh SM; the company's own site uses both names) has run on the island since July 2023. The company says its cars cover central Duong Dong, Grand World, the airport and the main beaches. The app is called Green SM Electric Mobility and is on the App Store and Google Play. Grab is definitely present at the airport: its driver pages describe GrabCar pickup points there under a layout in force from 12 October 2026. We could not confirm whether Grab covers the whole island, so open the app on arrival and see if cars show up nearby. Nam Thắng has its own app (our sources don't give its name). For the other companies we found no app, so you book by phone.

How do I avoid overpaying for a taxi on Phu Quoc?
We don't publish fares. Three simple habits protect you.
- Ask the driver to switch on the meter. If they refuse, get out and call another car.
- Book through an app: the fare and route are visible before the ride and you don't have to explain the address.
- If you book by phone, give the pickup point and destination and ask for the fare before the car leaves. Repeat the agreed amount aloud before you get in.
At the end ask for a receipt, or at least watch the meter. Don't go with someone who approaches you at the hotel or airport offering a "taxi": the company name and number on the car should match the one you called.
How do I take a taxi from and to Phu Quoc airport?
From the airport you can take a taxi company car (according to guides, Mai Linh and Sasco meet passengers there) or book Green SM or Grab. Grab has its own pickup points at the airport under the layout valid from 12 October 2026; follow the app's instructions. How do I get a taxi on Phu Quoc at night or in the rain?
Mai Linh, Vinasun, Sasco and Sài Gòn run 24 hours, so at night call the number in the table. In rain you may wait longer for a car in the apps, so leave extra time and don't leave it to the last moment if you have a flight. If one app takes long to find a car, open another or call a company. Your hotel reception can also order a car for the night.
Do I need data or a Vietnamese SIM to book a taxi?
