Where to go with a child in Da Nang on the first day?
Go to My Khe in the morning: a wide sandy beach 3 km from the centre, with lifeguards on sections 1–3 from early morning. In the afternoon heat stay in the shade or indoors, and in the evening head to the Dragon Bridge: on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 21:00 the dragon breathes fire, then water. 21:00 is late for toddlers, so watch from the embankment and keep out of the crowd at the bridge.

What to do with kids in Da Nang in the rain?
When it rains, take the kids to the Mikazuki 365 water park: it has an indoor zone with a wave pool, a 140 m slide and a children's pool, so you can swim during a downpour. It is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00, phone +84 236 3774 555. Older children may enjoy the Museum of Cham Sculpture by the Dragon Bridge (about 7:30–17:00; there may be a midday break, so call +84 236 3572 935) and the Da Nang Museum at 31 Trần Phú (8:00–17:00, phone 0236 3886 236). Autumn rain is frequent, so plan a spare day: see when to go to Da Nang.
Which beach is best for children?
Take kids to My Khe and enter the water only where lifeguards are on duty, between the red-and-yellow flags. In summer they work roughly 4:30 to 19:00; out of season there are fewer posts. The sea is calmest from April to August. From September to December waves are big and rip currents run along the shore, strongest in October and November; a red flag means no swimming. Other beaches (Non Nuoc, Bac My An, the Son Tra coves) are covered in Da Nang beaches. Never leave a child by the water without an adult, not even for a minute.
Ba Na Hills with a child: what to know?
Ba Na Hills takes a whole day: 1.5–2 hours from your hotel to the summit, so leave by 7–8 a.m. It is 10–15 degrees cooler at the top than in the city, so bring a cardigan, and from October to February a warm jacket and a rain shell: fog and drizzle are common. Cable car queues are longest from 9 to 11 a.m. and on holidays. With a day ticket the last cabin down leaves around 17:00, and taxis at the cable car are hard to find after 17:00, so agree that your driver waits. Road, schedule and weather are in Ba Na Hills from Da Nang.
Can kids go to the Marble Mountains and Son Tra?
Take children to the Marble Mountains if they are steady on steps: stairs, caves and pagodas take 2–3 hours. The lift goes only halfway up, the rest is on foot. Go in the morning before the heat. What to see on the mountain is in Marble Mountains in Da Nang. On Son Tra automatic scooters and large buses are not allowed, so go by taxi or car. In autumn roads close because of landslides: see Son Tra and the Lady Buddha.
Safety: sun, sea, jellyfish
The main rule is shade at midday and an adult next to the water. WHO advises limiting time in the midday sun, seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and a wide-brimmed hat, and using sunscreen on skin not covered by clothes. The NHS (UK) adds that babies under 6 months should be kept out of strong direct sun; use SPF 30 or higher on the face, ears, feet and backs of the hands, and reapply every 2 hours and after swimming. WHO also notes that the risk of drowning rises when no adult is watching a child near water.
If a child is stung by a jellyfish, the NHS advises rinsing with seawater, not fresh water, removing spines with tweezers, soaking in water as hot as the child can bear for at least 30 minutes, and seeing a lifeguard or doctor at once. Do not use ice, urine or a tight bandage. For difficulty breathing, chest pain, seizures, vomiting or loss of consciousness call an ambulance: in Vietnam it is 115, and the line answers in Vietnamese. Where to go in the city is in hospitals in Da Nang.
