Pharmacies in Nha Trang: buying medicine, prescriptions and late opening

How to buy medicine in Nha Trang without Vietnamese: what to show the pharmacist, which drugs need a prescription, which pharmacy is open until 23:30 and what to keep for insurance.

A pharmacy in Vietnamese is nhà thuốc, and in Nha Trang there's one on almost every street. Painkillers, fever reducers, plasters or allergy tablets are easy to buy: show the pharmacist the active ingredient or a photo of the pack. Antibiotics and other prescription drugs are sold only with a doctor's prescription — since May 2026 pharmacies face double the fine for selling them without one. Late in the evening, two Pharmacity branches are open until 23:30: one in the centre at 16 Hàn Thuyên, near Dam Market, and one in the Oceanus complex at Bai Duong — we were there at the end of September, and the door says 6:00–23:30.

The Pharmacity and Long Châu chains use the same signs all over Vietnam, so they're easy to spot in other parts of town too.

How do I explain what I need?

The pharmacist may not speak English, so:

  • Show the active ingredient in Latin letters (it's in small print on the pack, under the brand name). Brands in Vietnam differ, but the ingredient is the same.
  • Take a photo of your own medicine's pack before you leave home.
  • Keep a translator app with Vietnamese downloaded on your phone.

A few useful words: đơn thuốc — prescription, thuốc hạ sốt — fever reducer, thuốc giảm đau — painkiller, dị ứng — allergy, huyết áp — blood pressure.

Do I need a prescription?

For prescription drugs, yes — and antibiotics are among them. You may also be asked for a prescription for blood pressure tablets or strong painkillers. Decree 90/2026, in force since 15 May 2026, doubled the fine for pharmacies that sell prescription drugs without a prescription. If a pharmacy says no, it's not being difficult — see a doctor. Our guide if you get sick in Nha Trang explains where to go.

What if I run out of blood pressure tablets?

Better not to: bring enough for the whole trip, plus a prescription or a note with the active ingredient. If you do run out, see a doctor — they'll write a prescription, and the pharmacy will find the same ingredient under a local brand. Clinics and hospitals are in the hospitals and clinics section.

Where can I buy medicine late in the evening?

Both Pharmacity branches — 16 Hàn Thuyên in the centre and Oceanus in Bai Duong — are open until 23:30. Long Châu at 126 Phạm Văn Đồng closes at 22:00, Minh Châu at Muong Thanh at 22:30. Pharmacity delivers to your door — handy if you feel unwell and don't want to go out. If you feel really bad at night, don't look for a pharmacy — go to a hospital; addresses are in our guide if you get sick in Nha Trang.

What should I keep for my insurer?

Pharmacy receipts and the prescription. Without them your insurer may not pay you back. Photograph everything straight away — paper gets lost.

All pharmacies are in the pharmacies section.
