Getting sick in Nha Trang: where to go day and night, and how to keep your insurance claim

At night — the emergency department at the provincial hospital, 22-12 or Vinmec; by day — Tín Đức polyclinic. A where-to-go table, phone numbers and the papers your insurer needs.

At night, or if it's serious, take a taxi or Grab straight to an emergency department (cấp cứu in Vietnamese): the provincial hospital on Yersin, 22-12 Hospital and private Vinmec on the seafront all take patients around the clock. For a fever, food poisoning or a cold in the daytime, go to Tín Đức polyclinic (Prestige), open 7:00–19:00. And call your insurer's assistance line before you go, or you may not get your money back.

What should I save on my phone now?

  • Your hotel or flat address in Latin script, exactly as the maps show it.
  • Your insurer's assistance number and your policy number.
  • A few lines in Vietnamese: allergies, long-term conditions, the medicines you take. A translation app with Vietnamese downloaded works offline.

Show the taxi driver the hospital's Vietnamese name, not the English one. Two words help: bệnh viện is hospital, cấp cứu is emergency.

Should I call an ambulance or go myself?

The ambulance number is 115, but the dispatcher speaks Vietnamese. If you're in a hotel, ask reception to call. Often it's quicker to go yourself by taxi or Grab — the city is small.

The provincial hospital at 19 Yersin is the big public hospital with every department. The emergency department is in building A, phone 0258 3822 175. Few staff speak English, so keep a translation app ready.

22-12 Hospital is right in the tourist quarter and has its own emergency hotline, 0769 115 115. Outpatient clinics run Monday to Saturday, 7:00–11:30 and 13:30–17:00; on Sundays it's emergencies only.

Vinmec is a private hospital on the seafront at 42A Trần Phú, phone 0258 3900 168. English is more common there than at public hospitals, and so are bigger bills.

Where do I go in the daytime if it can wait?

A fever, food poisoning, a cough or a medical certificate is a job for a polyclinic, not an emergency room. In the centre that's Tín Đức at 69 Trần Quý Cáp, signed on maps as Prestige International Polyclinic. It sees foreign patients, staff speak English and French, and it's open 7:00–19:00, phone 0258 3813 778. Call in the morning and ask whether the doctor you need is in.

Where can I get a vaccine or a blood test?

At the Pasteur Institute's medical services centre, 10 Trần Phú, at the northern end of the seafront. It opens early, at 6:30, phone 0258 3829 532. If a dog or cat has bitten or scratched you, don't leave it until tomorrow: call and ask what to bring.

What about teeth, eyes or skin?

For teeth, see the dental clinics — every listing names the languages spoken. For eyes, the Saigon Eye Hospital at the western entrance to the city opens at 7:30, phone 0258 3895 039. For skin, the provincial dermatology hospital at 229 Nguyễn Khuyến in the north opens at 7:00. The cancer hospital shares that address, so look for the right building, and check the phone number on the hospital's website.

How do I make sure my insurance pays?

1. If you're well enough, call the assistance line first. They'll tell you which hospital they work with and whether they can pay directly. 2. If you pay yourself, get an itemised invoice (hóa đơn), a medical report with the diagnosis and the pharmacy receipts. 3. Photograph every paper straight away. Paper gets lost, and insurers don't have to pay without it. 4. Check your excess: a short consultation often costs less.

If you ride a motorbike, read your policy now, not after an accident. Some policies don't cover riding without the right licence.

Frequently asked questions

Which hospital in Nha Trang is open at night? The provincial hospital (19 Yersin, emergency in building A), 22-12 Hospital (34/4 Nguyễn Thiện Thuật, emergency hotline 0769 115 115) and private Vinmec (42A Trần Phú) take patients 24 hours a day.

What is the ambulance number in Vietnam? 115. The dispatcher speaks Vietnamese, so it's easier to ask hotel reception to call or to take a taxi.

Where can I see an English-speaking doctor in Nha Trang? Most likely at a private clinic: Vinmec, or Tín Đức polyclinic (Prestige), where staff speak English and French. At public hospitals, use a translation app.

Where do I get a rabies shot after a bite? At the Pasteur Institute's medical services centre, 10 Trần Phú, from 6:30. Don't wait — call straight away and ask what to bring.

Is there a dentist who speaks English or Russian? Each clinic in dental clinics lists its languages; some have Russian-speaking dentists.

What papers does my insurer need? An itemised invoice (hóa đơn), a medical report with the diagnosis and pharmacy receipts. Photograph them all at once.

Sources and checks

Hospital addresses, phone numbers and hours were checked on 26.09.2026 against Google Maps, the hospitals' own sites (vinmec.com, benhvien22-12.com) and Vietnamese directories; links are on each hospital's listing. 24-hour service and opening times come from maps; outpatient hours for 22-12 and Tín Đức come from directories, and Tín Đức's languages from travel guides. Maps show a different number for the eye hospital (+84 949 430 015); the listing uses the directories' number. Sources give three different numbers for the dermatology hospital, so its listing shows only the website. We check that a hospital exists, works at its address and answers its phone; treatment quality can't be checked from public sources, so there is no ranking. This is information on where to go, not medical advice. Updated 5 October 2026.
