Boat trips in Nha Trang: who to go with and what to ask before paying
Half a day in the bay, shared boat or private yacht, when the sea is calm, seven companies with boarding points and why to ask about children's life jackets first.
A boat trip in Nha Trang usually means half a day in a bay sheltered by islands: swimming, snorkelling, sometimes fishing and lunch on board. You can buy a seat on a shared boat or charter a whole yacht. The sea is calmest from February to August; from October to December the monsoon cancels trips. Before you pay, ask first about children's life jackets.
Who can I go out with?
| Company | Where boats leave | Format | Language |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catamaran VN | An Viên pier | catamarans and yachts: day, sunset, hourly; shared and private | separate number for Russian and English speakers |
| Vega Yachts | 14 Phạm Văn Đồng, north | day and sunset trips, lunch on board | Russian-language site and map name |
| Marmoris Yachting | Ana Marina, north | scheduled: morning and sunset; SUP, fishing | — |
| Venity Yachts | told when you book | private only, catamaran for up to 18, two-day trips too | separate number for Russian and English speakers |
| Vietnam Sailing Yacht | Phạm Văn Đồng or Ana Marina — check | crewed catamarans and motor yachts; group and private | — |
| Emperor Cruises | office at 74 Tô Hiệu | scheduled cruises and whole-boat hire | — |
| Sealife Nha Trang | office in Mipeco, south | agency: they find you a yacht | ask by phone |
| Kỳ Duyên — Hoàn Hảo Travel | desk by Hòn Chồng beach, confirm the spot on Zalo | wooden-boat island trips: Hòn Mun, fishing village; transfer and lunch included | Vietnamese and English, no Russian-speaking guide |
All companies are in yacht and boat hire. Kỳ Duyên is an agent for the tour company Hoàn Hảo Travel, listed under tours: navigation apps may lead to neighbouring houses on Hòn Chồng, so message them on Zalo before going. How to check a tour company's licence — in tours in Nha Trang.
Shared boat or private?
On a shared boat you buy a seat: the schedule and route are set, and stops are short and the same for everyone. A private boat carries only your group, and you agree the route and timing — you can linger where you like, but any delay is on you.
With small children this matters most: on a shared boat, you don't set the schedule.
When is the bay calm?
February to August. From October to December the monsoon brings waves, wind and cancelled trips. Don't plan a trip around the sea in those months — and ask in advance what happens if it's cancelled.
A weather cancellation isn't a failure, it's safety working. The bad sign is the opposite: a company that goes out in any weather "because people have come".
What should I ask before paying?
- Whether they have children's life jackets. An adult jacket doesn't hold a child — it slips off over the head.
- How many people the boat takes and how many there'll be this time.
- What's included: stops, food, water, snorkelling masks, how long the boat ride is.
- What happens if it's cancelled: refund, rebooking or nothing.
- Whether there's a radio or phone signal and a first-aid kit on board.
- Who skippers the boat and what language the crew speaks.
Ask about children's jackets first, even without children: the answer shows how the company treats safety in general.
Where do I board?
Some companies list a pier instead of an office — that's normal, they work from the water. But the meeting point and the boarding point may differ, and Venity Yachts has no fixed pier at all. Confirm where to meet the day before, not on the morning of the trip.
What should I bring?
- A hat and sunscreen. On the water the sun reflects off the surface, so people burn more often on a boat than on the beach, and there may be no shade on deck.
- Seasickness tablets — take them 30–60 minutes before you leave. Once you feel sick, they barely help. And look at the horizon, not your phone.
- If snorkelling is included, a mask that fits your face. Not a confident swimmer? Wear a vest. More in diving in Nha Trang.
Frequently asked questions
When is the bay in Nha Trang calmest? February to August. From October to December the monsoon often cancels trips.
How long is a boat trip? Usually half a day: the bay is sheltered by islands, so there's no need to go far. There are also two-hour sunset trips, and Venity Yachts runs two-day trips.
Can I charter a yacht just for my group? Yes. Catamaran VN, Venity Yachts, Vietnam Sailing Yacht and Emperor Cruises hire out whole boats; Venity works only privately.
Where do yachts leave from in Nha Trang? An Viên pier, Ana Marina and Phạm Văn Đồng in the north. Confirm the exact spot the day before.
Can I bring a small child? Yes, if there's a children's life jacket — ask that first. A private boat suits small children better: the schedule is yours.
How much does a boat trip cost? We don't publish prices: ask the company what the trip includes and what it costs.
