Markets and malls in Nha Trang: where to buy souvenirs, seafood and groceries

Dam Market, the night market, Vinh Hai and Xom Moi, the seafront malls and hypermarkets: where to buy souvenirs and fresh fish, where to go with kids, and how to bargain.

For souvenirs in Nha Trang, go to Dam Market (Chợ Đầm) during the day or to the night market by the beach after 7 pm. For fresh seafood, go in the morning to the markets where locals shop: Xom Moi or Vinh Hai. Coffee, cashews and spices are easy to pick up at Lotte Mart, and when it's too hot or raining, the malls on Tran Phu are open until 10 pm. At the markets, bargain — the first price is almost always inflated.

Where can I buy souvenirs?

At Dam Market — the central market in the lotus-shaped building, with souvenirs on several floors. In the evening the same kind of things are sold at the night market by the beach: come after 7 pm, when nearly all the stalls are open.

Coffee, cashews and spices are easier to buy at Lotte Mart on 23/10 road: prices are on the label, no haggling, and it usually works out cheaper than tourist shops.

Where can I find fresh seafood?

At the markets where locals shop. Vinh Hai in the north of town has over a hundred fish stalls, with fish brought in by local fishermen. Xom Moi is closer to the centre and opens at 6 am. Go to either in the morning — by midday most of the fresh catch is gone.

How do I bargain?

The first price at a market is almost always inflated, especially for tourists. Calmly name your own price, and if the seller won't budge, move on to the next stall — it often has the same thing. Count your money in front of the seller and pay in dong. Supermarkets and malls have fixed prices.

Where can I go with kids or when it rains?

To the malls on the seafront: AB Central Square has a kids' area and a cinema, Gold Coast has the Galaxy cinema and Korean restaurants on the 4th and 6th floors. Lotte Mart on 23/10 road also has a kids' play area. All of them are open until 10 pm, so they work for an evening out too.

Where do I stock up for a long stay?

If you're staying for the winter with a kitchen, the hypermarkets on the west side are the easiest: GO! is 15–20 minutes by taxi from the beach, MM Mega Market 20–25 minutes, with groceries in large packs. Closer to the centre, Co.opmart on Le Hong Phong delivers orders within 5 km. Getting there is covered in our guide taxis in Nha Trang.
