When to go to Nha Trang: calm sea from February to August, clearest diving water in April–June, surfing from September to May, rainy season September to December, monsoon from October. Which month suits what you want.
Short answer: for the sea, islands and diving, go from February to August; for the clearest diving water, April–June; for surfing, September to May. From September to December Nha Trang has its rainy season, and from October to December the monsoon too: swell, wind and cancelled boat trips. The city, pagodas, markets and mud baths work all year round.

When is the sea calm in Nha Trang?
From February to August. That is the time for boat trips to the islands, fishing and diving: the sea is at its calmest. From October to December comes the monsoon: agencies often cancel boat trips, fishing and dives, and in storms lifeguards ban swimming at the city beach. More in boat trips and Nha Trang beaches.
When should I go diving?
Nha Trang’s diving season is February to August, with the clearest water usually in April–June. Seasons vary between centres — Delight Diving, for example, gives its season as May to October — so ask when booking. From October to December dives are often cancelled because of swell and murky water. Centres are in diving in Nha Trang.
When is surf season?
September to May. In summer there are hardly any waves near the city and some schools leave. Lessons are mostly at Bai Dai beach on the airport road. Schools are in surfing in Nha Trang.
When should I come for a long winter stay?
If you are arriving for the winter in October or November, bear in mind that until the end of December Nha Trang has rain and the monsoon, and in November–December 2025 the Cái river burst its banks and flooded homes in the western, southern and northern wards near the river. From January it gets much drier. If you are coming in autumn, choose housing on a street that did not flood and keep spare days for the sea. Where to live is in Nha Trang districts.
What is open all year?
The pagodas and cathedral, Dam Market and the night market, the Oceanography Museum, the mud baths, cafés and bars — in any month, including in the rain. A city route is in what to see in Nha Trang; save the Ba Ho waterfalls and Yang Bay for outside the rainy season.
