Nha Trang in November: rain, rough seas and what to do when your boat trip is cancelled

November in Nha Trang is rainy and monsoon season: boat trips, fishing and diving are often cancelled and the waterfalls are best skipped. But it is surf season, and the city carries on in the rain. What to plan and what to do if it floods.

November in Nha Trang is the middle of the rainy and monsoon season. Boat trips, fishing and diving are often cancelled because of the swell, and the waterfalls and far beaches are best skipped on wet days. On the other hand, it is surf season, and the pagodas, market, museums and mud baths carry on in the rain. Plan November so that every day has a backup on dry land.

Can I go out to sea in November?

You can, but you can’t count on a particular day. From October to December Nha Trang has the monsoon: wind, swell, and agencies cancel boat trips, fishing and dives. If your November trip is about the sea, book with a free change of date and ask in advance what happens if it is cancelled — a new date or a refund. The sea in Nha Trang is calmest from February to August.

Is November surf season?

Yes. Nha Trang surf schools give their season as September to May; in summer there are hardly any waves near the city. Lessons are mostly at Bai Dai — the city beach rarely gets waves. Ask the school beforehand what happens if there are no waves on the day: a new date, theory, or a refund. Schools and where they are — in surfing in Nha Trang.

Where can I go in Nha Trang when it rains?

Long Son Pagoda and the White Buddha, the hilltop cathedral, Dam Market, the Oceanography Museum and the mud baths all carry on in the rain. A half-day route through the centre is in what to see in Nha Trang. Get between them by Grab or Xanh SM rather than by motorbike — you book a car in the app and stay dry (taxis in Nha Trang).

Where should I avoid in November?

The Ba Ho Waterfalls: in the rainy season the streams rise without warning, swimming is dangerous, the rocks are slippery, and it is best to leave by 14:00–15:00. After the floods of late 2025 only the walking trail at Ba Ho was open — check what is open before you go. Yang Bay Park closes some areas in heavy rain. Bai Dai Beach gets big waves from September to December. If you go anyway, check the forecast in the morning and don’t ride a motorbike in a downpour.

Does Nha Trang flood in November?

It can. On 19–20 November 2025, after days of rain, the Cái river rose above the third alarm level: water entered homes in the western and southern wards — Tây Nha Trang and Nam Nha Trang — and the Ngọc Hội junction was flooded. Those reports did not mention the Trần Phú seafront. If you are renting for November, ask the landlord whether the street floods, and keep water, food and a charged power bank for a day or two. Don’t ride a motorbike through a flooded street.

What should I pack for Nha Trang in November?

A light raincoat or umbrella, shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and a waterproof pouch for your phone. November evenings are cooler than in summer, but you won’t need warm clothes — a light top is enough. Long-term temperature and rainfall averages by month are on the weather page.
